The everyday lives of women are a puzzle to be put together. They wear makeup, paint their nails, worry about their hair, study, work, and take care of their families. Even with the daily hustle and bustle, some of them break stereotypes through jiu-jitsu.
The world of fighting is still dominated by men. But in recent years, this reality has been changing. More and more, it is common to see women practicing this sport, considered by many to be violent and aggressive.
Jiu-jitsu is not a violent sport, nor is it exclusively for men! On the contrary. It is a sport that is increasingly being sought after by women, whether for physical conditioning or self-defense.
In terms of physical benefits, jiu-jitsu allows the development of the entire body, increasing physical endurance, muscle strength, and of course toning the body, especially the abdomen, arms, and hips. It accelerates metabolism and increases endurance, improving cardiovascular and respiratory capacity. It increases flexibility, coordination, and reflexes. Jiu-jitsu, as it has no rigid movements or muscle isolation, allows all the muscles from the leg, arm, and trunk muscles to be worked, thus giving a defined and toned body globally.
In terms of mental benefits, jiu-jitsu is, in my opinion, much more interesting. As it is known, jiu-jitsu is a game of chess but in a human form. It requires concentration, self-control, the ability to analyze the situation in which you find yourself to constantly modify your strategy, and a lot of attention to detail, thus helping with self-confidence and emotional control.
All these mental capabilities are essential in our daily lives, both in dangerous situations, in our work, and even in our family and leisure life. Speaking specifically about women, I would say that the great advantage for them, which exists in smaller numbers in men, is the increase in self-confidence. In everyday life and in dangerous situations against men, women are always at a disadvantage, men are always stronger and by nature more aggressive. Jiu-jitsu allows women to equalize the situation a little in the case that the aggressor is not from this art, obviously. So, when a woman feels the effectiveness of jiu-jitsu during training and during her evolution, she begins to gain more self-confidence, she begins to be able to assess situations that arise to her in a different way because she no longer feels so “unprotected.”
Jiu-jitsu is a great way for women to improve their physical and mental health, and to break down stereotypes about what women can do.
